Getting Started First thing to do is get your floor jack out, and remove your front passenger side wheel. This will leave you with full access to the drain and filler plug. After you have removed the wheel, take a look and locate both plugs. The filler plug is a 17mm bolt on the left side of the transmission housing. The drain plug is slightly lower, and to the right of the filler plug. Space is the hardest part to changing the transmission oil. That is why it is important to have several different length extensions for your wrench and breaker-bar. You may want to spray both bolts down with penetrating oil, as they are likely to be on very tight. Remove the filler plug first. This way if for some reason you can't remove one of the plugs, you are not stuck with a transmission that has no oil. You will need to use the breaker bar, and remember that counterclockwise is to remove the nut, clockwise is to tighten it. Both of the nuts are extremely tight, so you may have to work at them a bit. They will come off, you use have to put some muscle into it. Once you break the nut free, you can switch to the socket wrench and remove the filler nut. Clean off the nut and replace the crushed washer. Make sure that your oil funnel and hose are long enough to reach the filler hole. Draining the fluid Adjust the floor jack so that the car is level. This can be hard to judge from up close, so you may need a friend to help you out. Another alternative is to take a few steps back and look. Once the car is level, move the drain pan under the drain nut. Again switch over to the socket wrench to back the nut out the rest of the way. Careful not to drop it into the oil pan. Again clean the nut off, and replace the crushed washer. Integra transmissions hold 2.3quarts of oil, so it won't take long to drain. You can further remove those shavings by using a telescope magnet in the drain and filler holes to collect loose shavings.

Place the funnel and hose into the filler hole, and slowly poor transmission fluid into the transmission. Once the transmission is full, oil will slowly drip out of the filler hole. To be sure it's completely full, put your finger inside the filler hole and make sure the oil is at least to the bottom edge of the hole. If any oil dripped during the fill, make sure to clean it off. The oil will slowly eat away at the CV boots, and those can be very costly to repair. Using a Ph balanced cleaner will remove the oil and be gentle on the rubber boots. If you want further protection, use a high quality rubber dressing like Lexol or Aerospace 303. Replace your wheel, and you are good to go. Redline Impressions: After driving around with redline, the shifting feels much smoother. My car in particular had very notchy shifting, which was greatly improved by redline. It is hard to tell if it made any difference in acceleration (less drag), but it is often said that switching to synthetic oil and transmission fluid will add 2whp. No grinding or difficult shifting resulted, in fact I found it much easier to shift into first and second, which can be tough on some Integras. Redline overall, performed much better than Honda MTL. As a result, there's not really much maintenance to perform. Still, most owner’s manuals will recommend changing the transmission fluid every 90,000 miles or so. Flushing your transmission’s fluid has fallen out of vogue in recent years because the high-pressure cleaning involved may dislodge debris inside the transmission that can literally gum up the works. I wasn't impressed by Redline, still feels notchy, could be a mechanical thing more so than a fluid thing, just wanted to share my experience. So what do you prefer and why.They’re expensive, but usually the best when it comes to any type of fluid. The car just had fresh Honda MTF2 put in a couple months ago by the dealer just before I bought the car. I do prefer the shift feel of Synchromesh over the Honda MTF2. The Honda MTF2 that is sold nowadays is on the thin side, in line with a 20 weight oil or an ATF. The original Honda MTF1 that was developed back in the 90's and recommended for our cars was a thicker fluid (more like a 30 weight fluid). My favourite fluid is Amsoil MTF but I just couldn't find it on short notice in my region as my local performance shop stopped selling Amsoil fluids. When I get time in the off-season I may switch to Amsoil MTF as it was my favourite in my S2000 and should work well in the Integra. I am liking the Sychromesh right now though and would recommend it over the Honda MTF. Redline MTL is a great fluid but for some reason I always found it notchy in Hondas, it seemed to work well in hot temp use but it was notchy when used in cooler weather. I think Amsoil MTF is the best fluid, followed by Pennzoil Synchromesh. Change it out frequently and it works good, and good for cold weather use being on the thinner side. Manual transmissions consist of internal gears, bearings, and synchronizers that are allow the driver to shift gears. Many manual transmissions are lubricated with a heavy petroleum-based oil. When this oil breaks down, its lubricating properties break down, which can make it harder for the driver to get the transmission into gear. Place the wheel chocks around the rear tires. Using the hydraulic floor jack, lift the front of the vehicle one side at a time at the manufacturer’s suggested jacking points. Lift it just high enough for you to gain clearance underneath. Place the jack stands under the manufacturer’s lifting points and lower the vehicle onto the jack stands. Most of the time, the filler plug is a large bolt located about halfway up the side of the transmission. Using the ratchet and the socket that fits snug on the filler plug, remove the filler plug. Check the fluid level per the manufacturer's specifications from a repair manual. If you don’t, then the fluid is low. If there is fluid at that level, then no additional fluid is needed. Using the fluid pump, add fluid into the transmission through the filler plug. Reinstall the filler plug and tighten it to manufacturer’s specifications. Using the floor jack, lift the vehicle one side at a time and remove the jack stand. Then lower the vehicle to the ground. My transmission was a bit noisy before and it's much quieter now. I bought my car used and the transmission started getting noisy. Took it to my mechanic and he checked the fluid and said it had gear oil not transmission fluid. He flushed it using Honda MT fluid and told me that Honda's need to use Honda fluid. He recommended for me to drive the car for a few hundred miles and flush it again to help get the rest of the dirty gear oil out so I bought some here on Amazon and just that. Glad I did cause this time around it made a difference. I'm going to change flush it every 30k from now on.It is a civic lx with the 1.7L engine and manual transmission. I have driven about 50,000 miles and decided to change the transmission oil after the axle broke. The fluid that came out of the transmission was just as clear, and clean as the fluid that went in after 4 years. There were no metal flakes, no burnt smell, it was still viscous, and looked new. I can't say much about the other stuff out there, but this has worked great, and I will continue to use it.Even if it is a manual. Unlike me I didn't and now I might have to suffer the consequences.I'm a manual transmission freak and all my cars have been and are manuals. I've experimented with many fluids including motor oil but this Honda fluid seems to me, to be the best at everything for manual transmissions.This is what is recommended for my 2011 Honda CRZ. So I did some research and most forms said try replacing the transmission fluid. So far since I changed the fluid the car shifts a lot better. Ran the car hard and no problems with any of my gears. My car is roughly at 174,000 miles on it. And the transmission still running strong. Definitely recommend. ZF has attributed most of these problems to software issues.
